Sony has introduced the new Zeiss Planar T* FE 50mm F1.4 ZA (model SEL50F14Z) to its range of E-mount lenses.

The full-frame lens promises high contrast and strong resolution across the entirety of the frame, Sony says, at all aperture settings – even when shooting wide open at f/1.4.

The new Sony 50mm f/1.4 lens is designed with Sony’s AA (Advanced Aspherical) and ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements, which it says help reduce spherical and chromatic aberration.

Meanwhile, Sony says ghosting and flare are kept to a minimum with a ZEISS® T* Coating, while the new Sony lens’ Planar design ensures minimal distortion.

Sony says the new E-mount lens’ 11-bladed circular aperture will help photographers capture beautiful bokeh, and the fast aperture makes it ideal for portraits and low-light conditions.

Other features in the new Sony 50mm f/1.4 include an aperture ring with an adjustable ON/OFF switch, an AF/MF focus mode switch and a dust and moisture resistant design.

What’s more, the new Sony lens also boasts a ring drive Super Sonic wave Motor system, which Sony says enables it to lock focus quickly and silently.

Sony 50mm f/1.4 Price and Availability

The new Sony FE 50mm F1.4 ZA price tag will start at €1,800 (UK and US prices were not available at the time of writing), and the lens will ship across Europe from the end of July 2016.
